An installation of open corner Solarlux Cero II sliding doors in Box, near Bath to form part of a new garden room at the back of a traditional Bath stone detached village house. The original property features all the hallmarks of period architecture, and the new extension has been carefully designed to contrast and complement in the original house with it’s stone construction, original tiled roof and period wood sash windows.

The garden room takes the form of a simple rectangular extension, finished in a dark grey powder-coated aluminium. Glazed on two sides, each elevation forms a seamless glass corner using Cero II minimal frame sliding doors. Each elevation features a two-panel configuration, with one panel stacking behind the other, and a wide open connection to the garden when both open corner Solarlux Cero doors are opened. The result is a bright and understated extension with real architectural clarity. The colour is also contemporary in the metallic RAL 9006 silver.

Open Corner Design with Slim Frame Sliding Doors

This project showcases the advantages of having an open corner design without the complexities of the cantilevered roof that’s often required. In front of the sliding doors is a feature post that plays an important role in the roof support which the open corner sliding doors sit behind. The two sliding door sets meet at their own post, colour matched to the doors. The structural post in white, acts as a defined visual anchor in front while the Cero II doors sit quietly behind. This method is usually cheaper than the cantilevered design too.

The doors themselves are glazed with toughened safety glass, featuring a soft-coat low-emissivity coating, warm edge spacer bars, and an argon gas fill for improved insulation and thermal performance. Slim 34mm interlocks and the concealed outer frame mean that even with two door sets at right angles, the visual framing remains minimal and balanced, allowing natural light to enter from both elevations.

A Contemporary Extension for a Period Home

The success of this project lies in how modern materials and detailing have been paired with the traditional character of the house. The roof of the extension is insulated timber, finished on the exterior with a full set of colour-matched aluminium pressings, specially fabricated and installed by our team. These finishing details ensure a cohesive look, completing the finished look with the lighting beneath the pressings in the timber.
