A substantial Bath residence transformed with the latest Decalu glazing system but also meeting the client requirement for aluminium stained glass windows. Another example of how an expert, long-established and professional installer, can take on any challenges and especially on items where the majorith of the glazing indusry say, it’s too complex to do.
At CBP, this is exactly the type of specialist work we excel in.
Aluminium Stained Glass Windows and Decalu 88 Windows and Doors
A Bespoke Design From the Start
The project centred on Decalu 88 aluminium windows and Decalu 163 lift-and-slide doors, all finished in RAL 7016 matt. These systems were chosen for their thermal performance, minimalist sightlines and the hidden drainage and hardware that give Decalu its clean, architectural look.
Alongside the glazing itself, the homeowners commissioned Themis at Bath Aqua Glass to design two bespoke stained-glass artworks. These were not decorative overlays. They were to be encapsulated inside the sealed units, becoming part of the window system itself. That meant every millimetre mattered.

We worked closely with Bath Aqua Glass to ensure the artwork dimensions aligned perfectly with the Decalu frames. Once completed, the stained-glass panels were sent to our partner in manufacturing Decalu windows and doors, who encapsulated each one into a fully compliant double-glazed unit.
From there, we handled the installation, ensuring the artwork sat exactly as intended without distortion, stress, or movement inside the frame.
The result is extraordinary: a contemporary aluminium system showcasing unique stained glass inside structural glazing, perfectly framed within the architecture of the property.
Decalu 163 Lift-and-Slide Doors Designed for Performance
To the rear of the home are the Decalu 163 lift-and-slide doors, specified with SKN175 solar-control glass on the upper set and standard glass below due to the natural shading of the balcony. The Decalu doors combine a slim contemporary appearance with impressive technical capability, including sash sizes up to 400 kg and exceptional thermal results that meet Part L and future home standards.
Their smooth lift-and-slide operation gives the homeowners easy control over ventilation and large opening spaces, while maintaining a modern and unobtrusive look against the stone exterior.
A Walk-On Glass Feature That Transforms the Space

One of the most distinctive parts of this project is the walk-on glass light installed in the upper floor. Positioned directly above the stained-glass feature window, it creates a vertical viewing channel. The artwork can be appreciated from both floors, with natural daylight illuminating it at different times of the day.
This required precise structural coordination, correct loading calculations and perfect alignment between the two openings. When everything was complete, the effect was striking—a stained-glass column extending through the building, visible above and below, with daylight passing through the colours and casting gentle tones into the surrounding rooms.
Why This Project Needed a CBP – A Specialist Installer
Projects like this demand more than fitting aluminium windows. They require:
• Detailed liaison between multiple specialist suppliers
• Technical understanding of Decalu’s deeper profiles and drainage channels
• Knowledge of glass weight, tolerances and correct encapsulation methods
• Confidence in handling bespoke glazing where nothing can be “adjusted on the day”
Many installers avoid this type of work because the margin for error is so small. At CBP, it’s exactly the type of challenge we enjoy. With decades of experience across aluminium, hybrid, uPVC and specialist systems, we take on complex glazing work where accuracy and finish matter.
A Truly Bespoke Result for a Bath Home
The completed project is not simply a new set of windows and doors. It is a combination of artisan stained glass, architectural aluminium, precision glazing and thoughtful detailing, brought together into a single, cohesive installation. The homeowners now enjoy exceptional thermal performance, contemporary styling, and a unique visual feature that elevates every room it touches.
If you’re working on a project—new build, renovation or extension—that requires more than standard glazing, we’d be pleased to help you achieve the right specification and the right result.
