This striking contemporary chalet style home in Wellow, near Bath, is fitted with four sets of the latest generation in highly-engineered sliding Schüco Patio doors, ASE 51 PD. Slimline sliding doors fitted with high performance glazing works beautifully to create a light filled living and bedroom environment. For this project, we supplied and supplied and installed Schüco doors upstairs and downstairs, with the upper sets behind our frameless glass balcony system. Expansive views, exceptional thermal performance, and effortless everyday usability throughout.
This particular house in Wellow, near Bath, Somerset has dark timber cladding on the upper floor with clean white render at ground level, dual colour yet balanced exterior. The sliding doors span virtually the full width of the rear elevation, other than the equally built end and central walls creating symmety.
The ASE 51 PD sliding doors allow lots of natural light to fill the property while maintaining the minimalist architectural style of the building.
Schüco Patio Doors. Designed for Modern Living

The aim of this installation was to maximise the visual impact of the rear elevation while providing the practical benefits expected from premium aluminium sliding doors. By installing the two larger sets on the ground floor, the entire rear elevation now enjoys uninterrupted views across the Somerset countryside and beyond.
An identical two panel set is available to view in our showroom. With each door set, you can open either the left or right leaf and this is a valuable additional feature, because if your furniture layout changes, you are not constrained by the fixed panel on other doors. Also designed into each door set are flush running tracks and bespoke cills beneath. This allows a minimal step out to the patio area and upstairs to balconies, while maintaining full weather protection and thermal performance.
The doors are triple glazed using toughened safety glass with a soft coat low emissivity coating, warm edge spacer bars and argon gas filling. This glazing specification significantly improves insulation and comfort within the home, reducing heat loss while helping maintain a stable internal temperature throughout the year.
As with many modern homes, the glazing forms an essential part of the architecture rather than simply filling openings in the wall. The slimline profiles and large glass panels ensure the doors complement the property’s contemporary design rather than competing with it.
German-Engineered and Made in Britain Patio Doors
The Schüco ASE 51 PD Panorama Design system, one of the newest additions to the Schüco collection gives you the premium status and luxury associated with the Schüco brand name at a much more affordable price.
These doors have all the exceptional engineering and design, alongside excellent specifications. This makes them perfect new more standard-sized openings as well as replacing your dated patio doors. All are designed to offer the clean aesthetic of larger panoramic sliding systems. As a result, ASE 51 PD provides an excellent balance of performance, style and affordability. Its slim central interlock of just 32mm creates a refined appearance, allowing more glass and less visible aluminium across the opening.
Each panel glides effortlessly thanks to Schüco’s advanced trolley system, which minimises vibration and noise during operation. The innovative handle design allows the door to unlock with a simple 20 degree rotation, making it intuitive and easy to use for the whole household.

The doors are manufactured around the glass in the factory, creating a neat and precise finish without relying on having to glaze the doors in an often dirty building site environment. Often pre-glazed products are better suited compared to those that are made without the glass.
Multipoint locking provides security across multiple points along the frame, while the high quality gaskets and sealing systems ensure the doors remain weather resistant and energy efficient.
Juliet Balconies and Bespoke Aluminium Roofline Pressings
In addition to the sliding doors themselves, this project also incorporates a Q-Railing Easy Glass View Juliet balcony system on the upper floor. These frameless glass balustrades provide protection for the upper windows while maintaining the open, minimalist appearance of the rear elevation.
To complete the exterior detailing, CBP also fabricated and installed bespoke aluminium pressings along the roofline. These colour matched aluminium panels are specifically pressed to suit the design of the property and finished in the same RAL 9005 colour as the sliding doors.
Unlike plastic alternatives, aluminium roofline pressings offer superior durability, a cleaner architectural finish, and a perfectly matched appearance that ties the entire rear elevation together.
