When an architect names a particular glazing brand on a drawing or specification, it can be tempting to interpret the choice as a simple product preference. Perhaps they like the appearance, have used the manufacturer before or trust a familiar name. Those factors may play a part, but there is often something more important behind the decision: reducing uncertainty as the design moves towards construction.

Architects work with many decisions that develop in parallel. The architectural intent may be clear long before every junction, interface and construction detail has been resolved. Glazing sits within that network of decisions, interacting with the elevations, internal spaces, structure and surrounding construction. A manufacturer or system family that the architect understands can therefore provide a more established reference point.
